How to calculate GST invoice value

The invoice value of a supply is the net (taxable) amount plus GST. If you know the pre-tax price, multiply it by (1 + rate/100): a ₹10,000 service at 18% GST becomes an invoice value of ₹11,800. If you only know the final inclusive price and need to back out the tax — for example when a vendor quotes "GST included" — divide by the same factor: ₹11,800 ÷ 1.18 = ₹10,000 net, with ₹1,800 of GST.

For supplies within a single state, GST splits equally between CGST and SGST (an 18% slab means 9% + 9%). For inter-state supplies the entire amount is levied as IGST. The buyer's total tax is the same in both cases; only the ledger heads differ.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate GST invoice value?

Invoice value = Net amount + GST. For a net amount of ₹1,000 at 18%, GST is ₹180 and invoice value is ₹1,180. Intra-state, that ₹180 splits into CGST ₹90 + SGST ₹90; inter-state it is IGST ₹180.

How do I remove GST from an inclusive price?

Net = Inclusive amount ÷ (1 + rate/100). ₹1,180 inclusive of 18% GST → ₹1,000 net and ₹180 tax. Switch this calculator to "Remove GST" mode to do it in one step.

What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?

Intra-state sales split GST equally into CGST (central) and SGST (state). Inter-state sales charge the full rate as IGST. Total tax for the buyer is identical.

Which GST rate should I use?

Under GST 2.0 (from 22 Sep 2025) the slabs are 0%, 5%, 18% and 40%, plus 0.25%/3% for precious metals. The correct slab follows the HSN/SAC code — 18% covers most services and standard goods.
